Coalworks
2016-2017
Work made during “Project Landscape” a curatorial project and workshop curated
by Maria Fernanda Palacios at Völklinger Hütte, Völklingen, Germany
and supported by the HBK Saar, Saarbrücken, Germany
“Coalworks” is developed as a sample of objects. The mineral material is conceived as the remnant of a space, the way it has become a solid part of the memory of a place.
The extracted material begins a series of changes not only in its own morphology but also in the morphology of the landscape where it was removed. How the idea of landscape and its memory can be reconstructed from the extracted material?
How the process of transformation of raw materials can speak about the transition from nature to industry?
